is a design and engineering consultancy company specialising in
water and environmental management and land development. The company
is a French private enterprise ("Société Anonyme")
founded in Grenoble (France) in 1958. It is completely independent
of any other industrial or financial group and has an extensive
network of branch offices. The staff consists in 700 employees with
a strong scientific background: PhD graduates, engineers and technicians.
SOGREAH and its scientific division LHF (formerly scientific subsidiary
of SOGREAH and of the Technical University of Grenoble) also regularly
welcome students at the doctoral and engineering levels. The total
annual turnover of the company is 60 Million Euros with about 50%
in France and 50% abroad.
SOGREAH and its LHF Division have up to now held a leading position
in private research, development and innovation in hydraulics at
the French and European levels, very often in co-operation with
public research laboratories and universities. SOGREAH is presently
the co-ordinating party of the IST/OSIRIS project (Operational Solution
for the Management of Inundation Risks in the Information Society).
The company is participating to the IST/RISK-FORCE natural risk
management thematic network, to the ASIA IT&C project (Information
technologies and communication for natural disasters) and to the
ENV/SANDPIT.
In particular, managing and forecasting major environmental risks
is a priority activity at SOGREAH. With their complementary skills
in hydrology, hydraulics, computer science and information technologies,
SOGREAH/Division LHF engineers have been able to make innovative
developments and applications. In the framework of inundation mapping
or road or railway embankment design studies, the determination
of flood hazards on the basis of 2D refined numerical modelling
techniques complemented by scale model experiments is also one speciality
of LHF division of SOGREAH.
