Superior Tecnico (IST) is the Engineering School of the Technical
University of Lisbon, which is committed to education and research
in various areas of engineering and technology. It has an academic
staff of approximately 800, about 8000 undergraduate students, 750
MSc. students and 250 PhD students. The Unit of Marine Technology
and Engineering is the Research Unit of Instituto Superior Técnico
that will be participating in this project. The Unit of Marine Technology
and Engineering has total research personnel around 40, organised
in five groups: Marine Environment, Dynamics of Marine Vehicles
and Platforms, Marine Structures, Ship Design and Maritime Transportation
and Safety, Reliability and Maintainability. This Unit has been
involved in or is currently involved in about 40 European projects.
The Group of Marine Environment has been involved in or is currently
involved in 11 European Projects and has experience in analysis
and modelling of wave data, including buoy data, hindcast models
and more recently remote sensed wave and current data. Also work
has been done in connection with modelling the fate of oil spills
and with oceanographic instrumentation.
