 The
Laboratory of Ecological Risks in Urban Drainage (LERMO) of the Czech
Technical University in Prague, represented by Prof. J. Pollert, was
founded at the beginning of 1998 under the scheme of the project “Improvement
of science work at Czech universities” granted by the Czech
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for years 1998-2000 and in
2001 LERMO was integrated into the official scheme of CTU as a department.
Since 2001 Laboratory is involved in 5.RTD Programme EU in project
APUSS (Assessing Infiltration and Exfiltration on the Performance
of Urban Sewer Systems) and in the project of the Czech Ministry of
Education, Youth and Sport “Integrated Water Management and
Floods Prevention under Sustainable Development” and as well
as in projects Czech Grant Agency (Expert System for Assessment Urban
Drainage Reliability, Remobilization of Heavy Metals and Changes in
their Distribution Coefficients as Part of Ecological Risk Assessment
in Urban Watershed of Small Streams).
The research team of department consists 5 researchers, 9 PhD students
and 4 technicians. The research topics deal with impact on physical,
chemical and biological components of urban drainage systems; sediment
as transport medium for pollution and transport and transportation
processes in sewers. The research also deals with modeling water
quality and quantity in the urban drainage systems and receiving
waters, and ecology of urban areas streams in micro and macro scale.
LERMO is equipped with physical, chemical and biological laboratory.
The team has a lot of experience with assessing the ecological risk
in aquatic ecosystems and the quality assessment. LERMO is also
equipped with fluid mechanics and rheometrics laboratory and has
a large knowledge of the physical modeling of the fluid and suspension
properties and behaviour.
