 The
Dresden University of Technology is one of the founder members of
the Dresden Flood Research Center (D-FRC). It is one of Germany’s
largest Universities with about 30.000 students. The University hosts
14 faculties, of which the Faculty of Forestry, Geo- and Hydrosciences
is the second largest (more than 2500 students). Involved in fundamental
natural and engineering sciences (meteorology, hydrology, limnology,
ecotoxicology, hydraulics, defence infrastructure construction, waste
water management, urban water, etc.) one of its central scientific
activities is trans-disciplinary water research. Twelve departments
act together to cover all the relevant basic and advanced scientific
expertise on hydro sciences and engineering including the Hydro Engineering
Department of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. This includes national
collaborative research in the field of landscape and urban hydrology,
ecology, regional climate, hydro engineering and research initiatives
for sustainable landscape management, as well as international cooperations.
Techniques and facilities cover a variety of resources from an extensive
hydraulic laboratory up to different experimental sites in the region,
which feeds long-term base time-series for meterological, hydrological
and hydraulic modelling on various scales from plot to global.
