FLOODsite builds on existing knowledge and best practice for flood risk analysis and management at National, European and International levels.  Link here to access details of relevant research, European policy, actions and ongoing projects.

In November 2007, the Parliament and Council of the European Union published the wording of a new European Directive on the assessment and management of flood risks.  FLOODsite is listed as one of the European actions which support the Directive.

Seven Pilot Study Sites have been established within FLOODsite. These include river, estuary and coastal locations with some of the river locations being subject to flash floods.  The purpose of the Pilot Sites is to provide real locations with real problems that participate as an integrated part of the research and development work.

FLOODsite is an EC 6th Framework Programme Integrated Project, undertaking research of over €14M value through 37 partner organisations and over 250 individual researchers.
