Flood hazard mapping is a critical issue in coastal low-lying areas due to their intrinsic sensitivity to the impacts of extreme storms. Task 3 reviewed the main technical aspects of coastal flood hazard mapping and produced a document that recommends methods and techniques to evaluate the different variables required to characterise coastal flood risk sources, pathways and receptors. Most of these guidelines were then implemented in a practical case of coastal flood hazard mapping in the Ebro delta, Spain.
The guidelines are relevant for engineers and other practitioners who need to undertake flood hazard mapping in order to delineate coastal areas prone to flooding.
Other FLOODsite outputs that provide support to those wishing to prepare flood hazard or flood risk maps are summarised here.
